The World Wide Web and digital technology in general are some of the greatest, most revolutionary inventions in human history

But it does come with some risks so I decided to include a few tips, most of which you hopefully already know

Dont Expose your Identity

Dont expose your name, phone number, adress, or school location

Do not send pictures to people you meet online, unless you know for sure they are a friend or family member you see off a screen. Obviously just like in the real world, people online can be criminals or gross people

Never meet up with someone you meet online! You may not know who they really are or what they truley want to do. They may have bad, scary intentions. If you are an adult you may be able to do this as it is less dangerous, but be careful and dont tell them where you live. Always meet in a public space

Keep Strong Passwords

Avoid sketchy content

If something seems suspicious such as the website domain is only numbers or has hyphens, which are common for malicious websites to use. If it seems too good to be true such as "$500 for free" it is likley a scam where people are trying to steal your data or download a virus. Also make sure you type in the correct URL!

Always use an antivirus software

We reccomend downloading the Mcafee WebAdvisor Extention which blocks and alerts you of potentially dangerous websites! For your PC we reccomend downloading an antivirus. You can get many great free ones such as Avast or Bitdefender

Online Etiquette

Fun little mention here. When talking online remember to be respectful! You would think its common sense but people can be toxic or just jerks

Be careful with exclamation points and all caps! they can be suprisingly easy to misinterpret without hearing a voice. Read outload before sending

Make sure spelling is appropriate for the situation! talk formally in a formal situation and casually in an appropriate sitution

Be forgiving, understanding, and non-judgmental of others posts or comments

If you get yourself into a bad situation when talking to someone, block and report them if possible, and simply stop talking. If someone threatens your saftey you may be able to get the police involved.

Stay safe and have fun!
