Solving Hard Equations; Different Levels of Polynomials
Today were gonna explore what happens when we solve high degree polynomials. This was inspired by a video by black pen red pen! I suggest you watch his too. (linked below)
This will give you the skills to solve 5 different degrees of polynomials! Not sure what this is good for? Take a look at the bottom of the document for examples of modeling situations
Intro - Why bother?
So understandably you probably think, why the heck should I bother to learn this. And i get that, not everyone likes math, so whether you want to use this practiclly in your everyday life, for a career such as IT, Computer Science, Medicine, and various others, or just need help pushing through some boring class. In each section of the articles I will explain real life problems you can use this knowlage for. I dont think most teachers do that enough.
Lets look at how hard it gets to solve equations, the more kinds of things we add to them!
First up we have level 1
Here we have a simple linear equation in standard form of ax + b = 0, where a is not equal to zero. By the way, I was actully inspired to write this article by a video created by Black Pen Red Pen. I have the video below if you want to see someone solve these in a way thats probably easier to follow!
So since this is just a linear equation solving is very simple. We follow algebra rules and isolate x. We get x to be -1. Very simple. Linear equations are some of the easiest to solve. Simply undo the steps and isolate x. First subtract 1 and bam thats it, lol. This is only 1 step
